VOCAB: Esquire

Emerging in the 14th Century of Western European origin, esquire is a term rank and respect - just below the knight meaning "shield-bearer".  In America these days, it's a courtesy title we give to lawyers.

It's also the title of a kick-ass periodical that, from it's beginnings in the 1930s emphasized men's fashion and contributions by writers like Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald,  Norman MailerTim O'Brien, and Tom Wolfe
